Check out Sloomoo Institute Atlanta’s newest immersive experience: LooMoosh’s Magnificent Slime Mold. Part of the experience at Sloomoo Institute, this exhibit is inspired by slime mold, a single-cell organism that is incorrectly named – it isn’t actually slime or mold.

“LooMoosh’s Magnificent Slime Mold is based off of slime mold, which is a real, single-celled organism that’s in the world. It’s super fascinating,” says Sara Schiller, Sloomoo’s founder and CEO. “We wanted to have an exhibit to bring that to life. LooMoosh’s Magnificent Slime Mold really combines science, play and art. Slime is at the intersection of science and play, and this exhibit is really taking that one step further.”

Educational and entertaining, both parents and kids will learn more about slime mold in an exciting new way.

“It’s really where families can come together and play,” Schiller says. “The exhibit works by having people jump on different air-inflated pads or press an air-inflated pad against the wall. As more people collaborate and jump together, lights go up through the slime mold and culminate in a light dance party at the top when they’re successful and working together. We have a ton of science facts about mold. They’re having fun and learning about slime mold at the same time.”

At the exhibit, participants can jump on or press air-inflated pads, and each one displays a different color to grow a glowing light maze. The more you jump, the more the slime mold grows for an interactive look at the cool organism.

Throughout the exhibit, explore the fun facts on the walls to learn more, and view the four new characters based on real-life slime mold spores. The slime mold spores have been brought to life as slimes.

Explore slime molds at home by purchasing a take-home science kit, which instructs you how to grow your own pet mold at home. Teachers and schools can also schedule field trips, and instructional guides offer different activities for students.

The immersive experience was created in collaboration with professionals. Expert Heather Barnett made a time-lapse video demonstrating how slime mold travels. The custom soundtrack was created by Pei Pei Chung and is available on music channels to accompany your at-home fun with the slimes or take-home kits.

“We can all learn something new every day. Parents are going to discover new facts, too,” Schiller says. “There’s so many cool aspects of slime mold, and we’re bringing it together with that element of play.”

This permanent new exhibit adds to the fun of Sloomoo Institute. Along with exploring LooMoosh’s Magnificent Slime Mold, customize your own slime, play with different textures of scented slimes, walk on Lake Sloomoo and more.
